Mark Del Monte Reginio aims to capture in this song, "Para sa Diyos at sa Bayan" - inspired by the theme of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente's 120th proclamation anniversary, the distinctive story of the nationalistic and revolutionary church. It is deeply rooted in the struggles of the Filipino people.

For 120 years, the church has been standing alongside Christ and the people in the struggle for liberation despite persecution and the danger of red-tagging. According to T. Agoncillo (History of the Filipino People), theIFI's historical mission, "the only tangible result of the 1896 revolution," affirms the organization's leadership, clergy, and laity's courageous prophetic witness.

When we sing the chorus, "Para sa Diyos at sa Bayan, simbahan kang nakikibaka, patuloy kang nagpapalaya," we are compelled to praise the God of history and freedom who, like the people of Israel, was freed from the Egyptians' captivity rule. We are brought back to our own ecclesio-historical story of being a church proclaimed by the common people and by a labor union group fighting for a decent living for the workers.

Even today, we are being called to serve God and the country, whether in church, on the street and protest marches, hospitals, urban communities or in the countryside, valleys, and rivers. It is indeed a task for us to declare God's liberation from all forms of oppression, slavery, and dehumanization. We celebrate and thank God for empowering the IFI to continue the struggle for freedom by calling it to faithful witness and service. Para sa Diyos at sa Bayan!
